Monkees and Mikado – 1966

Love and peace, flower power, yeah man,
Stunned by Aberfan,
Long skirts swishhhhhhh.
Bells pell-mell on bright, light ribbons,
Peep-Bo’s understudy
Couldn’t reach top ‘C’,
I could.
The chorus sniggered over Nanki-poo behind their fans,
Me and Alison of the cinnamon fringe,
In black and white, Mary Quant – OBE,
Designed to be with
Me Micky, she Peter,
Monkeemobile to America!
Proud bell-bottoms, waistcoats and headbands,
Sing: ‘I’m a believer I couldn’t leave her if I tried’
