Audio – He Drinks Blood

Experimenting with audio recording my poetry – it would be great if you’d let me know what this comes over like to you and whether you’d like to hear my other poems read and published in this way

  1. Wow, the audio recording is great, Polly. Very powerful. And that softly sinister voice is perfect!

  2. It works – you have a great voice to read poetry with. Maybe some more visuals in the background would enhance it further?

  3. Love your voice Polly πŸ˜‰ More audio recordings please!!
I agree with thomaswrites. Enhancing with a continuous image/visual would hook you in more!

    • Ooh, you’d like more! How encouraging. You’ll see that I’ve just noted in my reply to Thomas that I’m exploring apps and looking at ways in which to create visuals – if you have any ideas other than the (somewhat overdone) ‘poet videoed sitting reading’, I’d love to hear them.

Thanks for your comments Catherine πŸ™‚

    • Now what makes you think it’s me reading? heh-heh, only joking, it is me πŸ™‚ Thank you for your lovely words, Carrie. Glad you like the format. Quite a challenge to find ‘other’ visuals.

  8. OMG! You. Are. Great! YES you most certainly should do audio πŸ˜‰ And I’m not even into the dark stuff so I’m definitely an objective observer. (Although it did remind of running home to watch Dark Shadows every afternoon after school πŸ˜‰ ) Excellent! You go girl! πŸ˜€

Just, please, never record me reading at an event as I think I’d simply die… πŸ˜‰

  12. I like this. I always like to read my own work out loud and others work. For me personally if the words sound good when spoken then I know I’m on the rigth track. I’ve never had the confidence to do this so I’m glad that you have. Great post of a great poem and a great performance.

  13. Would I like to hear your other poems read in that way? Are you kidding? Your rendition is so incredible, I’d like to hear you read some of -my- poems that way.

  14. oh this is delicious…you have a great reading voice…if i was performing, i would work on putting a little more emotion in the second part…let them hear a bit of the fear of his coming…i liked this though…

  16. Polly, my laptop wouldn’t let me download, but kudos for taking it a step further and doing audio. I’ll try again later. I’m away from home and my access is a problem sometimes here.

  17. I think the reading is very successfully done. Your voice has the great timbre to make the poem come alive in the imagination. The poem itself is chilling, calling forth the demon very viscerally and concretely.
