Amazing Haze

Shimmering, shivering, a fast-flowing river
of seedheads shine silver, purple;
the breeze blows hither and thither,
on seeds like souls who think they’ll go through purgatory
travelling from life to heaven or hell.
Be good, be extraordinary.

  1. I like the build up, the rhythm and a top quality finish. The sentiment, ‘be good, be extraordinary’ really has an astonishing echo of something special, somehow understated yet throwing out a challenge, with a hint of cheekiness. Playful but profound, profound but playful.

  2. Wow! Just fabulous Polly! Those few words in the last line are wonderful x

  3. Wonderful Polly! I could imagine that “purple river” and the last line was excellent! πŸ™‚

    Are Litfest highlights a coming attraction? πŸ™‚

  4. A beautiful description of the seed heads–and a great admonition there at the end. Thanks, Polly, for this succinct and powerful poem. k.
