Writings and Witterings

OU Poets were once asked to write to the theme ‘Wabi and Ostranenie’, after looking these words up (!) here’s what I did…

Find the Persian pebble-edged river,
cross the candyfloss bridge
to pure graph paper.
Work a motif, mina-khani, rosette
aching on acanthus
in repeating figures
borrowed from weavers,
and know
there is no more.
Perfection is another’s domain.

  1. I have no idea what ‘Wabi and Ostranenie’ is, but I do know I hope I never have to walk over a candyfloss bridge. Sounds awfully dangerous. 😉

    Wonderful poem, Polly!

  2. This is a place where dreams are born… 🙂

  3. It is certainly not my domain! A very clever poem, Polly– have a wonderful holiday!

  4. I see a beautiful pattern and design of weaving and pebbles and natural fibers. Beautiful whimsical use of language and like a painting, each interprets it “in the eyes of the beholder,” Polly. 🙂
