A cause for consternation
across the conurbation, ripe
with foul frustration
and no small apprehension
our tutor’s decision
to give our destination
an historical dimension
and a path to scansion and to rhyme.
He grips our attention,
oh, vision, what description!
Torrid definition.
A brief elimination,
much eradication,
elation, condemnation,

Written at Arvon during an exercise where we had to make a list of words with the either the same or a similar ending. Final two lines just changed out of mischief (!) heh-heh… 😀

Hi Joe, sorry for delay in response. Like Holly says, it’s written to be performed, and I tend to agree that a fairly fast beat would be good—the words lend themselves to it, perhaps?

Loved the rhythm of this, but I must confess, when I read the first line, I thought it said “A cause for constipation.” And then I thought, “Well, that doesn’t seem quite right,” so I had to reread it. Ahh, now it makes sense. Guess it shows my mind is never far from the medical. 🙂

Aha! This brings back memories…. Naughty Polly being not a little subversive in class…! The rhythm is indeed excellent and as Joe says it’s definitely a spoken word piece. I think the pace can vary for emphasis, but maybe that’s cos I’ve heard you read it before. Lots of fun.
Also, I like Carrie’s “constipation” comment – I think that could be the start of a whole other poem…. 😉
